Did someone shoot gun near Boise elementary? BPD investigating

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) -- Police in southeast Boise are still searching for information and investigating a report of a shots fired near an elementary school Thursday afteroon.

Police recieved a call just after 1:30 p.m. from someone who said they thought they saw someone shooting a gun toward a school. Officers from BPD, Garden City, the Ada County Sheriff's Office responded to the area to conduct a search.

Trail Wind Elementary and Les Bois Jr. High were both put on lockdown Thursday afternoon, even though neither school was in session. Thursday was an inservice day in the district.

The Boise School District said 50 children were inside Trail Wind Elementary as part of a daycare program, school district spokesman Dan Hollar said. The district later tweeted that parents were allowed to come pick up their children with a police escort into the building.

The lockdowns have since been lifted, but that didn't happen until after officers conducted a large search of the neighborhood and surrounding areas. Lynn Hightower, spokeswoman for the Boise Police Department, said that anytime a school is involved in a threat, officers take it very seriously.

Police said they began drawing back some of their resources, and scaled back their search after they found no evidence of a shot fired. However, Hightower says they did not give the official "all clear" and that officers will continue searching the area for the next several hours.

Neighbors can expect to see an increased police presence in the area through Thursday night.

Police are also investigating an overnight incident of shots being fired at Les Bois and if the two are connected.
